Hstar Signs The Washington Compact – Strengthening Global Space Norms

Advancing Responsible and Sustainable Space Operations

At Hstar, we believe in global access to space, but access alone isn’t enough—we need to ensure that the growth of the commercial space industry is sustainable, transparent, and cooperative. That’s why we are proud to announce that Hstar has signed The Washington Compact on Norms of Behavior for Commercial Space Operations, a major step toward ensuring responsible practices in the evolving space economy.

What is The Washington Compact?

The Washington Compact is a voluntary, non-binding agreement initiated by The Hague Institute for Global Justice, designed to establish clear norms of behavior for commercial space operations. It addresses critical challenges in the growing space industry, including:

  • Safety & Sustainability – Ensuring responsible operations to prevent collisions, mitigate space debris, and promote long-term access to orbital resources.

  • Interoperability – Encouraging shared infrastructure, technical standards, and transparent communication to enhance international cooperation.

  • The Human Element – Upholding humanitarian commitments, including assisting astronauts in distress, fostering space education, and promoting a responsible space culture.

With the rapid increase in satellite deployments, space transportation, and lunar exploration, ensuring responsible and predictable commercial operations is more important than ever.

Why Hstar Supports The Compact

As builders of heavy-class spaceports and heavy space transport systems, Hstar plays a pivotal role in expanding global space access. Our commitment to cooperation, longevity, and flexibility aligns perfectly with the Compact’s goals.

Nick Orenstein, CEO of Hstar, shared his thoughts on joining The Compact:

“The space industry is evolving faster than ever, and with that growth comes the responsibility to ensure space remains accessible, sustainable, and cooperative. The Washington Compact aligns with HStar’s mission of expanding space access while upholding the highest standards of responsibility. We’re proud to be part of this global effort to shape the future of commercial space operations.”

Looking Ahead

Signing The Washington Compact is just one step in our commitment to a sustainable and thriving space economy. We look forward to working with fellow signatories to turn these principles into real-world policies and practices that will shape the next era of space exploration and development.

As we continue to expand global heavy launch capabilities and spaceport infrastructure, we remain dedicated to building a future where space is accessible, collaborative, and sustainable for generations to come.
